A Lover's Call Xxvii

Image
Where are you, my beloved? Are you in that little Paradise, watering the flowers who look upon you As infants look upon the breast of their mothers? Or are you in your chamber where the shrine of Virtue has been placed in your honor, and upon Which you offer my heart and soul as sacrifice? Or amongst the books, seeking human knowledge, While you are replete with heavenly wisdom? Oh companion of my soul, where are you? Are you Praying in the temple? Or calling Nature in the Field, haven of your dreams? Are you in the huts of the poor, consoling the Broken-hearted with the sweetness of your soul, and Filling their hands with your bounty? You are God's spirit everywhere; You are stronger than the ages. Do you have memory of the day we met, when the halo of You spirit surrounded us, and the Angels of Love Floated about, singing the praise of the soul's deed? Do you recollect our sitting in the shade of the Branches, sheltering ourselves from Humanity, as the ribs Protect the divin

Dover Beach

The sea is calm to-night. The tide is full, the moon lies fair Upon the straits; - on the French coast the light Gleams and is gone; the cliffs of England stand, Glimmering and vast, out in the tranquil bay. Come to the window, sweet is the night-air! Only, from the long line of spray Where the sea meets the moon-blanch'd land, Listen! you hear the grating roar Of pebbles which the waves draw back, and fling, At their return, up the high strand, Begin, and cease, and then again begin, With tremulous cadence slow, and bring The eternal note of sadness in. Sophocles long ago Heard it on the {AE}gean, and it brought Into his mind the turbid ebb and flow Of human misery; we Find also in the sound a thought, Hearing it by this distant northern sea. The Sea of Faith Was once, too, at the full, and round earth's shore Lay like the folds of a bright girdle furl'd. But now I only hear Its melancholy, long, withdrawing roar, Retreating, to the breath Of the night-wind, down the vast

A PSALM OF THE SONS OF KORAH

Listen, everyone,listen-earth dwellers, don't miss this. All you haves    and have-nots, All together now: listen. I set plainspoken wisdom before you, and my heart seasoned understandings of  life. I fine-tuned my ear to the sayings of the  wise, I solve life's riddle with the help of a  harp. So why should I fear in bad times, hemmed in by enemy malice, shoved around by bullies,   demeaned by the arrogant rich? Really! There's no such thing as self-rescue. pulling yourself up by your bootstraps. The cost of rescue is beyond our means,    and even then it doesn't guarantee Life forever, or insurance    against the Black Hole. Anyone can see the brightest and   best die wiped out right along with fools and        idiots. They leave their prowess behind,   move into their new home, The Coffin, The cemetery their permanent address.    And to think they named counties after       themselves!   We aren't immortal. We don't last long. Like our dogs, we age and weake

A sea of foliage girds our garden round, But not a sea of dull unvaried green, Sharp contrasts of all colors here are seen; The light-green graceful tamarinds abound Amid the mango clumps of green profound, And palms arise, like pillars gray, between; And o'er the quiet pools the seemuls lean, Red-red, and startling like a trumpet's sound. But nothing can be lovelier than the ranges Of bamboos to the eastward, when the moon Looks through their gaps, and the white lotus changes Into a cup of silver. One might swoon Drunken with beauty then, or gaze and gaze On a primeval Eden, in amaze. Toru Dutt Share My Bread

Afraid To Return - To Be Not Afraid

Image
Afraid To Return - To Be Not Afraid; When you were so kind to one long stem. The rose fragrant, scents cover the bed. Blooms once heady, they filled each hand. My spot in the sun where you raised me. Forgotten by you, that one pine tree full of sap? To draw the lightning together we did plant it for. The tap root deep in the earth, covered with soil. Shadow wide, straight to heaven and true.. Afraid To Return - To Be Not Afraid; James McLain Because of You

A David Psalm

God's glory is on tour of the skies, God-craft on exhibit across the horizon. Madame day holds classes every morning, Professor Night lectures each evening. The words aren't heard, their voices aren't recorded, But their silence fills the earth: unspoken truth is spoken everywhere. God makes a huge dome for the sun- a Superdome! The morning sun's a new husband leaping from his honeymoon bed, The daybreaking sun an athlete racing to the tape That's how God's word vaults across the skies from sunrise to sunset, Melting ice, scorching deserts, warming hearts to faith. A Better Life

Image
The more you think about it life gets harder everyday. You strive to do the right thing, but at times, it can go astray. It's hard keeping up, with all the things you want to do. Your intentions are on the right track, but it can run away with you. Today we live in a world, that is materialistic. Everybody, strives for more. We've forgotten about the important things in life and we have to remember, the why, the where and the for. Let's get back to the reality, of what life is supposed to be. Then once again, we can find our way, for a better life, for you and me! Audrey Heller Because of You

The First Snowfall

Image
THE snow had begun in the gloaming, And busily all the night Had been heaping field and highway With a silence deep and white. Every pine and fir and hemlock Wore ermine too dear for an earl, And the poorest twig on the elm-tree Was ridged inch deep with pearl. From sheds new-roofed with Carrara Came Chanticleer's muffled crow, The stiff rails were softened to swan's-down, And still fluttered down the snow. I stood and watched by the window The noiseless work of the sky, And the sudden flurries of snow-birds, Like brown leaves whirling by. I thought of a mound in sweet Auburn Where a little headstone stood; How the flakes were folding it gently, As did robins the babes in the wood. Up spoke our own little Mabel, Saying, 'Father, who makes it snow?' And I told of the good All-father Who cares for us here below. Again I looked at the snowfall, And thought of the leaden sky That arched o'er our first great sorrow, When that mound was heaped so high. I remembered the g

Peace Can Be Found In The Storm

You think you hurt and that life has treated you so unkindly Friend let me tell you about someone who endured so much more He endured more than any human upon this earth has before He was laughed at and mocked by those whom he loved He was wounded for our sins as well By those whom he taught about God and good His whereabouts to the enemies they still did tell He was spat upon lashed, beaten beyond belief Nowhere upon earth did his body find relief His own mother watched him die All sh could do was watch them torture him Her son as she winced in pain on his behalf “Oh how she did cry”! He was torn, and tattered, beaten and scorned Yet I am sure he hurt more for the hearts That were broken and for all who for his death, mourned He took so little for himself, for he came as a servant to all And not once as he hang upon the cross suffering Upon his many angels for help did he call! So unworthy are we still of his life he gave for all Don’t look back at who has hurt you the most Or what is
