Acts 9:11

Image
These were his last words. As they watched, he was taken up and disappeared in a cloud. They stood there, staring into an empty sky. Suddenly two men appeared - in white robes! They said, " You Galileans! - why do you just stand there staring  into an empty sky? This very Jesus who was taken up from among you to heaven will come as certainly - and mysteriously - as he left." Eugene H. Peterson Nothing But The Cross

PSALM 139

Image
You have searched me, Lord,     and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise;     you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down;     you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue     you, Lord, know it completely. You hem me in behind and before,     and you lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,     too lofty for me to attain. Where can I go from your Spirit?     Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there;     if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn,     if I settle on the far side of the sea,  even there your hand will guide me,     your right hand will hold me fast. If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me     and the light become night around me,”  even the darkness will not be dark to you;   ...

Poem

And if it snowed and snow covered the drive he took a spade and tossed it to one side. And always tucked his daughter up at night And slippered her the one time that she lied. And every week he tipped up half his wage. And what he didn't spend each week he saved. And praised his wife for every meal she made. And once, for laughing, punched her in the face. And for his mum he hired a private nurse. And every Sunday taxied her to church. And he blubbed when she went from bad to worse. And twice he lifted ten quid from her purse. Here's how they rated him when they looked back: sometimes he did this, sometimes he did that. Simon Armitage Turn Up The Volume

The White Mans Burden

Image
Lost in the forest, I broke off a dark twig and lifted its whisper to my thirsty lips: maybe it was the voice of the rain crying, a cracked bell, or a torn heart. Something from far off it seemed deep and secret to me, hidden by the earth, a shout muffled by huge autumns, by the moist half-open darkness of the leaves. Wakening from the dreaming forest there, the hazel-sprig sang under my tongue, its drifting fragrance climbed up through my conscious mind as if suddenly the roots I had left behind cried out to me, the land I had lost with my childhood--- and I stopped, wounded by the wandering scent Pablo Neruda Trust God

Dark Caverns

Image
Within dark caverns of the mind Fearsome creatures abide Demons tempting with praise and bribes Offering false hope from Hell's fires. Do not falter nor let the spirit weaken When walking twisting tunnels Terrifying dark labyrinth Fearful of hearing Satan's step. Colin Ian Jeffery Share My Bread

A Lover's Call Xxvii

Image
Where are you, my beloved? Are you in that little Paradise, watering the flowers who look upon you As infants look upon the breast of their mothers? Or are you in your chamber where the shrine of Virtue has been placed in your honor, and upon Which you offer my heart and soul as sacrifice? Or amongst the books, seeking human knowledge, While you are replete with heavenly wisdom? Oh companion of my soul, where are you? Are you Praying in the temple? Or calling Nature in the Field, haven of your dreams? Are you in the huts of the poor, consoling the Broken-hearted with the sweetness of your soul, and Filling their hands with your bounty? You are God's spirit everywhere; You are stronger than the ages. Do you have memory of the day we met, when the halo of You spirit surrounded us, and the Angels of Love Floated about, singing the praise of the soul's deed? Do you recollect our sitting in the shade of the Branches, sheltering ourselves from Humanity, as the ribs Protect the divin...

A PSALM OF THE SONS OF KORAH

Image
Listen, everyone,listen-earth dwellers, don't miss this. All you haves    and have-nots, All together now: listen. I set plainspoken wisdom before you, and my heart seasoned understandings of  life. I fine-tuned my ear to the sayings of the  wise, I solve life's riddle with the help of a  harp. So why should I fear in bad times, hemmed in by enemy malice, shoved around by bullies,   demeaned by the arrogant rich? Really! There's no such thing as self-rescue. pulling yourself up by your bootstraps. The cost of rescue is beyond our means,    and even then it doesn't guarantee Life forever, or insurance    against the Black Hole. Anyone can see the brightest and   best die wiped out right along with fools and        idiots. They leave their prowess behind,   move into their new home, The Coffin, The cemetery their permanent address.    And to think they named counties after       ...

A Better Life

Image
The more you think about it life gets harder everyday. You strive to do the right thing, but at times, it can go astray. It's hard keeping up, with all the things you want to do. Your intentions are on the right track, but it can run away with you. Today we live in a world, that is materialistic. Everybody, strives for more. We've forgotten about the important things in life and we have to remember, the why, the where and the for. Let's get back to the reality, of what life is supposed to be. Then once again, we can find our way, for a better life, for you and me! Audrey Heller Because of You

The First Snowfall

Image
THE snow had begun in the gloaming, And busily all the night Had been heaping field and highway With a silence deep and white. Every pine and fir and hemlock Wore ermine too dear for an earl, And the poorest twig on the elm-tree Was ridged inch deep with pearl. From sheds new-roofed with Carrara Came Chanticleer's muffled crow, The stiff rails were softened to swan's-down, And still fluttered down the snow. I stood and watched by the window The noiseless work of the sky, And the sudden flurries of snow-birds, Like brown leaves whirling by. I thought of a mound in sweet Auburn Where a little headstone stood; How the flakes were folding it gently, As did robins the babes in the wood. Up spoke our own little Mabel, Saying, 'Father, who makes it snow?' And I told of the good All-father Who cares for us here below. Again I looked at the snowfall, And thought of the leaden sky That arched o'er our first great sorrow, When that mound was heaped so high. I remembered the g...
