The Spirit Of Truth (JOHN 14) The Message

 "If you love me, show it by doing what I told you.

I will talk to the Father, and he'll provide you with another

Friend so that you will always have someone with you.

This Friend is the Spirit of Truth. The Godless world 

can't take him in because it doesn't have eyes to see him,

and doesn't know what to look for. But you know him already

because he has been staying with you, and will even be in you!

THE MESSAGE


THE WAY COMES FIRST

Jesus says he was the Road, commonly translated as "the way".

He also said he was the Truth and the Life. The Jesus way wedded to the truth

brings about Jesus' life.

We can't proclaim Jesus' truth and then do it any old way we like.

Nor can we follow the Jesus way without speaking Jesus' truth.

But Jesus as the Truth get's far more attention than Jesus as the Way.

Jesus as thr Way is the most frequently evaded metaphor among Christians

with whom I have worked for fifty years as a North American pastor.

The Way comes first. We can not skip the way of Jesus in our hurry to get

to the truth of Jesus, by living Jesus in our homes and workplaces, with our

friends and our families.

I Speak Jesus

 Besides affecting our eternal salvation, Christ's crucifixion affects us every  day of our lives. God's way of being among us is to get down to our level, to enter the humiliation of death, to share the persecution and the pain, to  get into our skin and go through these things with us. It's impossible to take the truth of the gospel and divorce it from the way of the gospel. We're not allowed to pick and choose among the truths of the Bible and not make up a private anthology of comforting sayings. Jesus is the Way as well as the Truth. And the way is crucifixion. Suffering is part of that reality. It's comforting to know I can get beneath God. Wherever I am, however low I get, he has been there and is with me there and longing for fellowship with me there.
